In 2008, we designed the first tools to measure the performance of console games. These tools have evolved over the years, but the transition to a 4K workflow means that we need a radical overhaul of the way we test the new era of games - in this DF Direct, Rich shows our new techniques to measure the performance of the console and how it optimizes the workflow for 1080p and PC too!

Thanks Richard for this video. I've always been curious, what's the sampling rate you use for your FPS meter?
ReplyDeleteSo you finally showed us that "very expensive capture tool"
ReplyDeleteCome on, this brilliant new method gives you a solid resolution down to 3 frames.
ReplyDeleteThis is way inferior to high fidelity example you are showing around 12:35 which provides decimal point resolution updated couple times each second.
Aren't You Then Still Bottelnecked By The Capture Software/Hardware?
ReplyDeleteImpressive! Will you actually release the Version of VirtualDub2 you created and/or the filters? ;)
ReplyDeleteIts Screen tearing use g sync monitor
ReplyDeleteIt seems with the new tools you should be able to Livestream game performance on release respective release dates; that would bolster views
ReplyDeleteHonestly digital foundry is a real treasure!
ReplyDeleteyou do the lords work
ReplyDelete...which is pretty awesome. How do you do, fellow kids?
ReplyDeleteA NEW DIRECT! OMG!!!!!!!-Wait it's just digital Foundry...
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Nice tools!
ReplyDeleteAll good stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to final specs and also what the special sauce actually does
ReplyDelete“Let’s just dip into the options here” is my now new way of saying that
ReplyDeleteVirtualdub! This is amazing! You made changes to Virtualdub and a pluggin to Premiere! I sure like to play with that one day...
ReplyDeleteAs Virtualdub is somewhat ancient and may not support it, how do you solve the HDR capture?
😴
ReplyDeleteSo you are using this on Windows but how are you capturing the Xbox video
ReplyDeleteI’m less impressed now and will take their vids with a grain of salt from now on.
ReplyDeleteThis channel is my favorite source of tech news and knowledge. Professional yet friendly, intelligent, and well articulated. 👌
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Halo Infinite analysis between Xbox One ,Xbox One X, Xbox Series X and PC.
ReplyDeleteAwesome but where is Tom?
ReplyDeleteLost some weight?
ReplyDelete7:58 I thought my PC at first made this sound. Scared the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteXbox 🕸PlayStation 🕷
ReplyDeleteThis seems excessive for a disappointingly minor console upgrade that might not even hit a consistent 1080p60 and has no real hope in heck for 4k60 due to a massive memory deficiency.
ReplyDeletePlus what does it even matter for a youtube upload.
Also, why did Frakes dye his hair?
"It's all good stuff"
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wonder about the setups of the performance testing labs at various game studios.
ReplyDeleteNow we just need a tool that can keep up with Richard's hand movements.
ReplyDeleteF ingers P er S econd™️
It'd be cool if someone created an on the fly resolution tool. Real time pixel counts for adaptive resolutions.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff! Always interesting to see the magic behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteMan, I love Digital Foundry
ReplyDeleteEspecially Richard
Very poor sound quality, you sound like you're sitting inside a plastic pipe
ReplyDeleteHey Rich, are you guys planning on implementing a workflow that allows visualising the fps and stuff in a LIVESTREAM? Would be pretty dope, streaming the game on twitch with FPS and frametime graph below, and then compiling that 3 hour session into a short 15 min youtube video for later. Tho considering your workflow seems Adobe premiere based, it seems not easy to implement for livestream.
ReplyDeleteWhat about 8k?
ReplyDeleteGo Series X!
ReplyDeleteActually, Richard, I find that that game is actually VOLFFENSSHTEINN
ReplyDeleteTHE KING OF CONSOLE HATERS!!!! Never listen to a man with butter on his teeth....
ReplyDeleteMy last video will tell you exactly what you'll need in your PC to play Nextgen PS5 and Xbox Series X games. Minimum and Recommend Specs. It's long bc I explain everything, but the specs are in the description of you're lazy, constrained for time or can't stand my face.
ReplyDeletepretty awesome!
ReplyDeletethis is incredible stuff guys
ReplyDeleteWe salute Richard!
ReplyDeletewhy the audio bad / weird
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! It will definitely ramp up the quality as you guys get more time to create your content!
ReplyDelete9:15 - All those Hard Drives
ReplyDeleteAmazjng job
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Richard exists to get excited about cool tools I'd never understand. The fact that their analysis videos are so friendly to tech dunces is an underrated talent these folks have.
