Hi Julian, I know this video has been up for some time, but I'm just curious, why did you opt for a single 8gb stick of ram for this pc?
ReplyDeleteHope NOC can do more research for next video. I define value as best OVERALL performance for given budget (how about 1, 2 and 3k build?)
ReplyDeleteCan we have a build based on spot price of parts at Sim Lim, together with benchmark of each main component? E.g. CPU (Intel vs AMD), GPU (Nvidia vs AMD), storage (SSD vs Optane).
Think that solves the main bottlenecks for gaming. Real benchmarks numbers please. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHonestly for gaming pc value for money,
Get a i5 processor practically 7k to 8k range,
For Graphics card use a 1060 or 1050 to for best experience (if you not running 4K on tv or on pc monitor)
*Best to use a water cooling for the cpu cooler
I recommend H100 v2 Corsair (best value for money)
If you building a work station and gaming pc, use core i7 or core i9 series for the cpu
The graphics use 1060 or above up to your choice or what specs you need for things like video editing or whatever.

ReplyDeletealternatively, a similarly priced AMD Ryzen 2200G or 1300X can also be considered, gives you 4 cores and you can overclock it as long as you get the correct motherboard. The CPU socket will also be used minimally until 2020 so you can upgrade your CPU in future when you have a bigger budget without changing your CPU.

ReplyDeleteI would wait for AMD to release their Ryzen 2500 and 2300 those will be a very killer option, 6 cores on the 2500 is basically unbeatable and their motherboard is compatable with future gen processors.

ReplyDeletei3 8100 is no good anyways. 6cores is now mainstream. you either go dirt cheap with the g5400/g4560 or go full on i5/i7 8th Gen. If you want quad core for multitasking eg game + stream but on budget, go Ryzen 3 1200. Though no longer on price list, just go in store buay paiseh and ask. Cheaper. AMD promised AM4 support till 2020, don't need worry about changing mobo once every 2 years like intel.
ReplyDeleteI know, i3 8100 will still have better single core performance, overall slightly better. But consider that Ryzen is known for good stock cooler and overclockable, and AM4 provides better upgrade paths in the future. the r3 1200 can be overclocked to match r5 1400 performance, where the r3 is 4c4t and r5 1400 supposedly 4c8t. At this point you have already pulled ahead of the i3 8100 which is Non-overclockable. Without overclocking, r3 is a great CPU on its own already.
Lets cut out the bullshit about "GT1030 good value" or "r3 220g and r5 2400g has iGPU comparable to GT 1030" They only reason you would want a PC is to outperform your gaming laptop without it burning your lap. GTX 1060 3GB is the value for money overall.
However, consider gaming laptops rocks 1050/ti and 1060 3GB already, its still ok to get a GTX 1060 3GB for your PC, just that you would get rather similar performance. At this point, I am just ranting on.
Most value now, Price per Core Ryzen 5 2600. OC Baby!

suggestion and lessons for people. You buy 2nd hand GPU, nego the heck out of it. Bear in mind most people they buy whole computer system. Even if still under warranty, they won't give you receipt cuz they keeping for their own CPU and stuff. NO RECEIPT = NO WARRANTY. NO WARRANTY = NO PAY. Stop letting those people cheat your money and stop supporting an unhealthy 2nd hand PC market in Singapore. I don't care if your GTX 750 is better than the GT 1030, You cannot sell same price cuz no warranty + 4 years old already.
Absolutely get an SSD, you will throw your PC out of the window with a HDD. SSD for OS and Games, HDD for your porn stash. Don't forget to encrypt cuz illegal. (Disclaimer: Not even I do such things, do at own risk).
He is absolutely right about the RAM. 4 GB is enough 8 GB is recommended 16 GB is best. More than 16 you get diminishing results. 1 stick 8GB upgrade with same stick for 16GB @ dual channel
I feel that this video does not explain in depth enough (didnt explain why you choose these parts or the setting you used in game). It feels like you didn't do much homework/research on these pc parts. (TBH It feels like a sponsor ad)
