How can Wii games work on Switch? Well, here's a potential answer - with Nintendo support, Super Mario Galaxy officially works on an Nvidia Shield TV - using the same Tegra X1 part as its hybrid console. It is thanks to a very accomplished emulator that works behind the scenes, although there are many advantages and disadvantages to this approach, as Tom and Rich discuss.

Maybe i missed it, whats the source for this being an emulator, is it not a port from wii to switch? Does nintendo switch have a nintendo wii emulator?
ReplyDeleteSuper mario galaxy deluxe
ReplyDeleteThere are upresed textures that you can download and run with dolphin
ReplyDeleteI just booted my Wii on my new 4k TV. Even with this games true 16:9 mode, it's bad. You can barely make anything out past Mario lol. I really want to an HD port of this
ReplyDeletewould liek to see this on the switch. Looks so bad on the wii
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would love an HD 60fps port of Super Mario Galaxy (My favourite game of all time), I can't imagine it playing well on the Switch since it's pointer controls are a lot less accurate than a Wii Remote and having to use an analog stick for the cursor would be incredibly slow and tedious...
ReplyDeleteWhy is it so hard to get GameCube games on modern hardware? I admit it. I was a young little graphic snob back then. I looked at the gamecube and dismissed it as Xbox was Superior in performance.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about the Nintendo exclusive game experience. I've paid my debt for my ignorance. Please someone make this shit run like a Nintendo title should on something modern.
Pack this with SMG2 and release it for Switch, Nintendo. Pls.
ReplyDeleteWhere I can import a chinese Shield TV?
ReplyDelete2:08 dont you hate it when you fall over by talking to blue lumas?
ReplyDeleteOh for fucks sake!!!! I want this on my Switch!!!
ReplyDeleteI WANT. But I want SMG2 even more because I was on a break from gaming when that was a thing... guess its not too late to get the Wii version...
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine what could happen if Nintendo released official HD emulators for each console in its history on the switch. With its back catalogue of awesome games that can only be found on a Nintendo system, it could be a game changer. HD GoldenEye, the good Mario party games, GameCube fzero. All the Zelda games should be on switch, hand held and console versions. Surely the big N can monetize that.
ReplyDeletewhy cant this happen on the switch already!!!
ReplyDeleteNew to the Nintendo Switch!
ReplyDeleteMario Legacy Collection

☆Super Mario Sunshine
☆Super Mario Galaxy
☆Super Mario Galaxy 2

£54.99
If this happened I would cry.
If I missed any add below ;)
The switch does have sensors for moving. And u have seen it before.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's from 2018
ReplyDeleteI want ocarina of time remaster on switch, windwaker, twilight princess, and skyward sword. I know I'm being selfish but whatever
ReplyDeleteIs there an apk for this?
ReplyDeletelooks like Dolphin Emulation
ReplyDeleteWorld of goo for the nintendo switch recreates the wii pointer with gyroscope if im not mistaken
ReplyDeleteWhat did you get this from?
ReplyDeleteDolphin will load texture packs on boot to replace the old assets, be it low res textures or other things like button images. That's probably what the Shield version is doing.
ReplyDeleteThis should be ported to the Switch, no question about it
ReplyDeleteThe Switch does make use of pointer controls, however it's not with the IR camera as far as I know, it's with the gyroscope. World of Goo uses these pointer controls on the Switch.
ReplyDeleteDolphin vs this.
ReplyDeleteNintendo was willing to remake their greatest games ever, updating the quality and remapping the controls...
ReplyDeleteAnd then they only released it in ONE country. Thanks for the big middle finger Nintendo.
I would buy the crap out of this on the switch
ReplyDeleteHey Nintendo, why dont you releases on your own fucking console to make it worth while? Oh wait, I have to pay a monthly fee to maybe get this game later.
ReplyDeleteI really want this for Switch. Galaxy has some flaws, but it is maybe my favorite Mario game nonetheless. I love the abstract geometry: it's like a whole game full of Bowser levels from SM64, but with dreamy, pleasant visuals and music. It's a little too easy and casual, especially the laughably simple boss fights, but still I love that game.
ReplyDeleteI wanna see a official gamecube emulator running on the nvidia shield other than dolphin
ReplyDeleteLol. Not up to quality? Have you played Breath of the Wild?
ReplyDeleteWorld of Goo on the Nintendo switch actually does have pointer controls similar to the Wii, and it just uses the gyro controls.
ReplyDeleteYou say its an emulator but they actually have the chinese language and the A button at the title screen where as the Wii version has you push A and B
ReplyDeleteSomeone please put the English version on this and release the apk!
ReplyDeleteDolphin next?
ReplyDeleteYou gonna tell me you notice a framerate drop from 60 to 59 while playing?!
ReplyDelete10:45 wow you feel it when fps 59 from 60
ReplyDeleteThis game has always been beautiful and remains beautiful. Odyssey is far behind.
ReplyDeletegive me xenoblade
ReplyDeleteWhat a video and what a way to comment. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteToad's Treasure Tracker actually does have a pointer which works pretty well. So this is quite doable.
ReplyDeletewhy not switch ? ;-;
ReplyDeleteI hope they bring metroid prime trilogy to switch someway
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing!
are you going to be sharing the APK? so we could find a port to the US shield.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if other high end android smartphones from this year can run this Nvidia Shield Port at full/decent speed (NOT dolphin)
ReplyDeleteOne question: Go vacation (a wii game) is going to be ported to the switch. Could you take a look at it and tell us if it also runs on an emulator?
ReplyDeleteThat means we can get wii games emulated on switch.
ReplyDeleteWorld of goo, little inferno, human resource machine and another lost phone: laura’s story are all games I have played that utilise pointer controls on the switch, and I am sure there are many more. So pointer controls would work fine for wii emulation on the switch as it works the exact same way that skyward sword uses pointer controls with wii motion plus.
