In this video, we are testing the Walmart Overpowered DTW gaming PC. We tried to order the DTW3 again, but it appears to be out of stock (or was at the time of purchase, anyway). We waited a few weeks for it to be restocked, but it never happened, so we now assume that Walmart is in the process of clearing inventory, not restocking. Prices have been cut significantly on the Walmart DTW1 and DTW2, for those who stay, and now the question is whether it's worth it just for the parts (or an inexpensive gaming PC). Unfortunately, it looks like things are not changing and Walmart has managed to make big mistakes anyway. Some things have also improved, but watch the video to see the rest.

ReplyDeleteYou dont buy things in stores wich dont specialized in what they are selling, thats it! Second what comes in my head are bicycles, you buy a bicycle in a bicycle store and not in a store that sells food.

ReplyDeleteI used to work for an SI a couple of decades ago. When I first started with them they had a select number of people that built and tested systems that customers ordered. If something didn't work they would chuck that part and test with another part (this SI used really cheap parts, ie; Chaintech motherboards). As this SI acquired some contracts with stores and a TV shopping channel they started hiring warm bodies to build PCs and would only test every 10th or so system.
ReplyDeleteI remember us meeting with OEMs such as Microsoft and Western Digital. Western Digital had a dummy hard drive that would record any shocks to the drive during the building process. I was a manager at time and was asked to send the drive through the build process without telling anyone that it was a special drive. I then asked for the PC to be brought back to me when it was done. The WD rep read the number of shocks to the drive and how bad they were and it didn't look good. I took it pretty seriously, the owners did not give a crap at all.
They simply wanted as many systems built as quickly as possible. Our support line, also filled with warm bodies at this point. I was giving basic lessons on what a computer was and the different components on weekends to anyone that was interested. The number of calls from customers with computers that didn't work was astounding. I believe we had hundreds of cases backlogged in the queue. Management's answer to this was everyone needed to speak with at least 25 customers a day and the way to achieve this was to limit all tech calls to 10 minutes. I left not long after this was implemented. The company was swallowed up / sold to a larger company and that was the end of that... Until the class action lawsuit. Where I testified against the company.
I would imagine that the same thing is happening here with the Walmart computers.

ReplyDeleteThe reason for the 1 stick vs 2 is for upgrades. If you have two 4GB sticks and you want to add an 8GB, you have to get rid of 4GB to add it. So instead of getting 16GB, you get 12 GB, because you have to remove one of the sticks. And this just seems to be the mentality of those who are inexperienced with computers, and in all fairness. I don't people who buy pre-built computers from a retailer like Wallmart is doing something that intensive or would recognize the effect of the extra CPU Lanes to the RAM.

ReplyDeletefeelsfuckingsadman for 1300$ i built my sick friend a pc with a 2070super, i79700k, 16gb 3200ram 500gb SSD liquid cooled, with the best thermals on a case ive ever seen. Walmart is a shameless fucking joke.

ReplyDeleteI'm intelligent and a year ago I bought a piece of crap from Walmart and today I bought another one just because i didn't learn the first time and I'm suppose to be intelligent.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I figured Walmart wanted to make a quick buck on the Gaming PC craze and didn't want to give any profits from actual good pre-built manufacturers like MSI and Asus and didn't bother to make it good. THIS is proof that they stopped giving a fuck when it flopped.

ReplyDeleteThe thing with Walmart seems to be they use the most suspect builders with almost shady deals when they buy the parts in China and use unedjucated people to build the cases and then just fabricate specs from invidual component parts -superquality Yes.. maybe -I can do better myself and im not a company . Maybe Walmart needs a 3 rd chance on a Christmas computer.
