This morning, Microsoft told us that you do not need to buy their new console because it will have NO EXCLUSIVE games for at least a full year! Lets talk about this strange choice in a Dreamcastguy rant.

The next generation of consoles begins this holiday season, with Microsoft and Sony respectively launching new hardware in the form of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. But this time, since both consoles will offer full backward compatibility with games from the This generation does not mean leaving the past behind. Microsoft is going even further: its proprietary games will be playable on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X, at least for now, which means that nothing will be limited exclusively to the new console.
"As our content comes out over the next year, two years from now, all of our games, much like a PC, will play from top to bottom with this family of devices," said Matt Booty, chief of internal development teams. from Microsoft at Xbox Game Studios, in an interview with MCV. "We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox by [Series X] that they feel that they have made a good investment and that we are committing to it with content. "
Cross-generational compatibility is great news for the tens of millions of Xbox One owners, as they won't have to buy an Xbox Series X to play the new Halo game. But there is also a potential downside. Across both generations, the complete Xbox "family of devices," as Booty puts it, spans the gamut from the launch of Xbox One to the Xbox Series X. In an interview with GameSpot, the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said that the Xbox X series offers "more than eight times the GPU power of the Xbox One".

ReplyDeleteIn the exact same manner that a game can release for Xbox one and looks better as well as performs better on the Xbox one X, so will the game perform better when they're making it for the Xbox one X series and turn it down some for the Xbox one x or vice versa.
This is a big mistake by Microsoft. To say all their next gen games will also play on the Xbox One consoles is stupid. Because your pretty much saying dont buy our next console. And yes those games may be a complete downgrade of what the Series X can offer. But if you look at how Microsoft handled this generation. You'll see they had the One X and it was suppose to be the best place to play. Which it was but it wasn't so so great that you HAD to buy it in order to have a good experience. With the Xbox One S and maybe not the orginal Xbox One. You still had a good experience with the graphics and gameplay that system could offer. Only thing is you couldn't play 4k gaming which for some people is not a big deal especially if your on a budget. So saying yeah you dont have to buy our new console right away in about 2 years from now is the worst PR ive ever heard. Their just asking Playstation to kick their ass again. And I understand they want to take the consumer approach to reach more gamers but come on. We want backwards compatibility, but not to the level of making whats suppose to be next gen games have to try and also make them work on older less beefy consoles. Because that would just mean the supposedly next gen games are not using the full power available in next gen hardware. We want games from the Xbox One back to the OG Xbox to be able to play on the Series X. And have updated visuals and optimization. Not have next gen games force to work on OLD hardware! Microsoft starting off very bad.

ReplyDeleteThis is what pc is? You pay more money for more power to run your games better. Same with this new xbox
ReplyDeleteConsoles are like phones now, they have forward and backward capability. This is why they just calling it Xbox, the only difference from the one is the cpu. They could technically run games for years. Noticed they said support for two years? A one x can run games in 4K it could replace the one s as the entry level console. A one x running games better than some pc’s out there, not everyone has a 2080ti. The only bottleneck is the cpu when it comes to the x. MS dropped the ball by not putting in a ryzen 1 to future proof the one x. Besides that the one x has several years worth of life in it.

ReplyDeleteI loved the xbox one x when it came out but for extremely bored of it too quickly due to no games so I switched to the ps4 pro and love it. I'll probably avoid the same mistake with the next gen as well. One big ass paperweight was enough for me not going to buy another one again.
